→ Please remember to take your keys before you leave. (remember + to-Infinitiv = nicht vergessen, etwas zu tun)
- I forgot him about the meeting — he turned up anyway. (tell)
→ I forgot to tell him about the meeting — he turned up anyway. (forget + to-Infinitiv = versäumen, etwas zu tun)
- She tried the window, but it was jammed. (open)
→ She tried to open the window, but it was jammed. (try + to-Infinitiv = sich bemühen, etwas zu tun — es fiel ihr schwer)
- This job means a lot of time away from home. (spend)
→ This job means spending a lot of time away from home. (mean + Gerundium = zur Folge haben)
- He went on for another hour — nobody could stop him. (talk)
→ He went on talking for another hour — nobody could stop him. (go on + Gerundium = dieselbe Tätigkeit fortsetzen)

→ I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you the position. (regret + to-Infinitiv = formelle Mitteilung schlechter Nachrichten)
